1940 was a memorable year for Autumn Glen resident Carolyn Akin Shenk. She graduated high school, won the Vanderburgh 4-H Health contest, was named Miss Indiana and went to Atlantic City to participate in the Miss America contest. Today, at age 86, Shenk is the oldest living Miss Indiana and holds the distinction of winning over the largest Miss Indiana field ever, of 92 contestants. ...

Robbery leads to Putnam crash

A man armed with a handgun robbed a Boone County bank in Lizton Thursday night and fled to Putnam County where he caused a crash and escaped. Police are searching for the man who entered the State Bank of Lizton around 5 p.m. while customers were still inside. One of those customers called the police and reported the crime. The man then led several agencies including Putnam County Deputies, Roachdale Town Marshal Mike Mahoy and an excise officer on a chase before getting away...

Mullis leads six Cougars to All-County

It was the year of the Cougar. North Putnam senior Jake Mullis raked up some impressive numbers as he led the Cougars to their semistate appearance after capturing the sectional and regional titles. Mullis batted .401 in 107 plate appearances and recorded a 0.45 ERA and going 14-0 on the season to power the Cougars. He also captured school records for career batting average and career strikeouts, therefore he has been named the 2006-2007 BannerGraphic Player of the Year...
