Mary Ann Pruitt

Mary Ann Pruitt, 84, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024 at her home in Greencastle.

She was born on Sunday, May 19, 1940 to the late Lynden Hadley and Mary Etta (Raine) Hayden in Indianapolis.

Mary Ann was a foster parent for almost 30 years, with over 300 children coming into her life. She nurtured and loved each one as her own. Her granddaughter, Whitney, says it all about Mary Ann: She was rich with love.

Mary Ann was blessed with many wonderful and awesome grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces and nephews. She is survived by her daughter, Marietta Hauk and husband Richard of Greencastle; sons Timothy Lee Carter and wife Shelley of Greencastle, Jerry Wayne Pruitt and wife Pam of Martinsville, Jonathan Wayne Pruitt of Indianapolis, Michael Joe-Wagner Pruitt of Greencastle, Michael Wayne Pruitt of Plainfield and William Michael Wright of Greencastle; and brother Robert Lester Hayden.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Wayne Pruitt, who she married on April 8, 1959 and passed on June 18, 2006; parents Lynden and Mary Etta; grandson Jonathan Pruitt; and nephew Tracy Lynn Hayden.

Special thanks go out to Elara Caring in Terre Haute for helping make Mary Ann’s final months comfortable, and all the love and support showed to Mary Ann’s family, all who was blessed to know Mary Ann.

No funeral or memorial service will be held at Mary Ann’s request.
