Richard D. Hassler, 87, of Greencastle, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022.

He was born April 6, 1934 to Glenn and Pearl Hassler.

Dick graduated from Reelsville High School.

On Dec. 9, 1972 Dick married Maxie TeKulve. After many years of running Hassler Trucking together it was time to retire to Florida.

They spent many years enjoying retirement together. Maxie passed away May 1, 2019, and Dick returned home to Greencastle.

Dick worked at IBM for several years, but a suit and tie just wasn’t for him. In 1962 he started Hassler Trucking in a little shop in Manhattan. He saw many drivers come and go over the years, but drivers weren’t just employees, they were family.

Many family members also joined him in the business throughout the years, including his wife, Maxie, sons, daughter-in-laws, a granddaughter, several grandsons and now even a great-grandson. His legacy will live on in all of them. Even after he moved into assisted living, you would find him with his chair facing out the window counting dump trucks as they passed by.

He is survived by sons, Richard Hassler (Jan) and Lonnie Hassler (Teresa); daughters Debra Rose and Julee Looker (Bryan); grandchildren Wendy Stevenson (Gale), Bryan Hassler (Ashley), Casey Harris (Mandy), Jonathan Hassler (Haley), Rusty Giles, Matthew Hassler (Amber), Kyle Hassler (Megan), Heath Hassler (Lindsay), Alyshia Aiona-Foster (Whitney), Amanda Foster, Connor Looker, Garrett Looker and Madison Looker, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; brother Julian Hassler; and several nieces and nephews.

He was prceded in death by his wife, his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

A celebration of life will be held at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 8 from 4-8 p.m. with a special time of sharing to take place at 6:30 p.m. for all who would like to tell a story or share a memory.

Memories may be shared with the family at www.BittlesandHurt.com.
