Charles Werner Schmidtke, 41, of Greencastle, died at 8:55 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022 in Columbus.

He was born on April 2, 1981, in Fort Wayne to Axel and Kimberly (Flauding) Schmidtke.

Charles received his associate’s degree from Universal Technical Institute in Chicago. He was a self employed-contractor and entrepreneur. He enjoyed woodworking, motorcycles, gardening and farming. Charles was an excellent cook and was always interested in new business opportunities.

He is survived by his parents, Axel and Kimberly Schmidtke of Riceville, Tenn.; brother Juston (Alyssa Kaplan) Schmidtke of Louisville; nephew Everett Schmidtke of Louisville; grandmother Erna Schmidtke of Fort Wayne; aunt and uncle Tammy (Dave) Baumgartner of Roanoke, Ind., and their children Dylan and Grant; uncle and aunt, Hans (Diane) Schmidtke of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., and their children Beth and Jacob (Niki); aunt Becky Green of Huntington and her children Devin and Jobe; and his ex-wife, Rachel Stephens.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Grace Flauding and Werner Schmidtke, and his aunt, Pamela Flauding.

There will be a memorial service for Charles at 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 26 at the Cloverdale Christian Church, 11961 S.R. 42, Cloverdale. Arrangements by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash.
