Victor W. Beck, 84, passed away peacefully on Jan. 19, 2024 at his home near Roachdale.

He was born Nov. 3, 1939 in Blacks Ferry, Ky. Vic came to Indiana in his teens and worked in the construction trade the rest of his life. He learned to play the guitar as a young man and loved bluegrass music. Along with his children Roy and Vicki and a friend Marlin Cole, a band was formed that played at many festivals and events in the early 1970s.

For the last 39 years of his life, Vic shared his life and love with his “best friend in the whole wide world,” Janet Oliver, and he became a much-loved member of her family. He planned and built the rustic home of his dreams on Big Walnut Creek.

Another bluegrass band came together with Vic on guitar and vocals, his daughter Vicki Griffith on dobro and vocals, Janet Oliver on bass and Gene Dalrymple on banjo. Friends & Family played through the 1990s.

Vic enjoyed sharing his music, front porch pickin’ with friends and family, and traveling to the Smoky Mountains, out west from Arizona to Alberta, and especially Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Webb.

Vic is survived by partner Janet Oliver, son Roy Beck, daughter Vicki Griffith, stepdaughters Janice Roach (Mark), Jacki Horn (Sam) and Jamie Addler (Gene), as well as 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

As per his wishes, there will be no visitation or service. At a later date a celebration of life will be held at his home for friends and family. Online condolences may be made to www.samaritanfunerals.com.
