Friday Kitchen Fire

Firefighters check the apartment complex at 301 W. Walnut St. in Greencastle after a fire in a kitchen area Friday evening. A box alarm went out after the Greencastle Fire Department was dispatched for a structure fire and arrived to smoke being present. A water can was utilized and the fire was marked under control. No injuries were reported, though the American Red Cross was contacted. The origin of the fire was traced to the stove, though the exact cause was undetermined. While the box alarm was canceled, Madison Township volunteer firefighters made scene, as well as Putnam County EMS, the Greencastle Police Department and DePauw Public Safety. Greencastle Utilities inspected the water to the structure, while Duke Energy secured the utilities. The Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department covered Greencastle Fire’s station during the incident.
