County Jail

Twelve people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Saturday

• At 10:57 p.m. Colby F. Strasburger, 54, Russellville, was lodged at the jail for probation violation.

• At 4:17 p.m. Michael C. Oldham, 34, Fillmore, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana.

• At 6:02 a.m. Michael T. Vanevery, 44, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for intimidation and resisting law enforcement.

• At 2:53 a.m. Dester R. West, 58, Newport, was booked in for driving while intoxicated.

• At 2:28 a.m. Valerie L. Ricketts, 37, Sullivan, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

Friday

• At 8:39 p.m. Keven D. Crowe, 32, Coatesville, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 1:47 a.m. Joshua D. Ellington, 25, Greencastle, was booked in for possession of paraphernalia and on three local warrants.

Thursday

• At 8:43 p.m. Victoria C. Land, 37, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for theft, residential entry and criminal mischief.

• At 12:10 p.m. Melissa E. Spivey, 47, Dana, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 11:41 a.m. Jessica L. Voland, 52, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail for failure to appear.

• At 9:22 a.m. Colten R. Branham, 22, Brazil, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 9:21 a.m. James B. White, 28, Brazil, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 11 incidents between Thursday morning and Monday morning:

• At 9:44 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:53 and determined the alarm was due to dust from construction. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:29 a.m.

• At 3:55 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to 501 N. CR 25 East for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:06 p.m. and were advised by the homeowner that the alarm was activated as they were servicing the detector. As the homeowner stated that an alarm company was contacted and the home did not need checked, GFD went back into service at 4:13 p.m.

• At 6:26 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Greencastle High School for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:33 and determined the alarm was due to dust from construction. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:51 p.m.

• At 2:42 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Lilenthal House at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:47 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 2:51 a.m.

• At 2:33 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to the area of 10 S. Bloomington St. after construction crews struck a gas line. Firefighters arrived at 2:35 and monitored homes in the vicinity. After CenterPoint Energy arrived and the leak was secured, GFD went back into service at 3:46 p.m.

• At 7:59 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched for a trash fire at 1555 S. Bloomington St. Firefighters arrived at 8:06 p.m. and determined that the residents were burning trash. They were advised of the city burn ordinance. GFD went back into service at 8:15.

• At 10 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched for a structure fire at 301 W. Walnut St. Firefighters arrived at 10:03 to a fire in the kitchen area of one apartment. The fire was controlled as a box alarm was disregarded. No injuries were reported, though the American Red Cross was contacted. While the exact cause was undetermined, the origin of the fire was traced to the stove. Madison Township volunteer firefighters were on scene along with Putnam County EMS, the Greencastle Police Department and DePauw Public Safety. GFD went back into service at 11:34 p.m.

• At 7:01 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Greencastle High School for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:09 and determined the alarm was due to dust from construction. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 7:25 p.m.

• At 11:57 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 7 Wood St. after construction crews struck a gas line. Firefighters arrived at 12:04 a.m. Sunday and monitored the area. After CenterPoint arrived and secured the leak, GFD went back into service at 3:01 a.m.

• At 12:26 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 1414 N. U.S. 231 to investigate a fire. Firefighters arrived at 12:35 and found that a fire occurred inside one of the apartments. With the fire out on their arrival, it was determined that items on top of the stove caught while the resident was gone. After checking for extensions, GFD went back into service at 12:59 a.m.

• At 5:11 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:17 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 5:28 p.m.

Additionally, GFD responded for 15 medical assists during this timeframe.
