Cubs get big win, prepare for rematch with Eagles

The Greencastle Tiger Cubs made quick work of the visiting Dugger Union Bulldogs in non-conference softball action Wednesday night, pounding out 13 hits and scoring 19 runs en route to the 19-4 win.

With normal starter Ali Hassler getting the night off, Haley Iseman took the mound and struck out the side in the first. In the bottom half, Allie Beaman led off with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Iseman drove her in with a groundout.

Emma West, who went on to have a big night, and Lilley Franklin both singled. West scored on a goundout and Franklin on a wild pitch. Hassler later walked and scored to make it 4-0 after one.

Dugger scratched out a hit in the second, but that was all. The Cubs basically wrapped up the game in the second, sending 18 batters to the plate. Emma West doubled twice in the inning, bringing in a pair of runs. Greencastle had seven hits and drew five walks to bring 13 in runs, and all of a sudden it was 14-0 after two innings

The Cubs stepped off the gas a bit. Dugger picked up a pair of runs. They strung four singles together, with Sage Stahl bringing in two. The Bulldogs were able to get two more in fourth to try and keep the game going., but Greencastle score two of its own in the fourth, after West’s fourth hit of the game and Franklin reaching on an error. Kyler Rumley came off the bench to drive them in with a two single.

Iseman closed the game out in the fifth, as the Cubs went on to the 19-4 victory. She picked up the win, scattering seven hits and only walking two, while striking out seven. Stahl took the loss for the Bulldogs.

West led the offense going 4-for-4 with two doubles and two stolen bases while scoring four runs.

Weather permitting, they will host South Putnam Thursday night to close out WIC action.
