County athletes advance from girls’ track sectional

TERRE HAUTE — A number of local athletes advanced to regional competition based on their performance the Terre Haute North Girls’ Track Sectional Tuesday evening.

Greencastle will have a pair of entries at the Bloomington North Regional on May 21, while Cloverdale, South Putnam and North Putnam each have one.

As a team, Greencastle finished sixth at sectional with 31 points, while North Putnam and Cloverdale tied for ninth with 23 points, with South Putnam close behind with 18 points and 12th place.

Advancing for South Putnam is senior Bailey Brickert, who finished second in the 100 hurdles at 15.45 seconds.

Meanwhile, Skyler Byrd is advancing for Greencastle in the pole vault after clearing a height of 9 feet, 6 inches, good enough for third place. The Tiger Cub 4x100 relay team also finished third, with the team of Isabella Parker, Ali Dobbs, Kyra Bandy and Kylie Silbert finishing in 53.25 seconds.

Asyria Ford led the Cloverdale effort by finishing third in the 400 meters in a time of 1:03.22.

North Putnam also had one third-place finisher, as Mackinley Lawson advanced with a throw of 105 feet, 10 inches in the discus.

Others scoring points for Greencastle included Dobbs in two events, as she was sixth in the 200 (28.77 seconds) and eighth in the 100 (13.81). Colleen Bossnack was seventh in the 3,200 (13:09.91), while Mikinley Cantonwine tied for eighth in the high jump (4-feet-6) and Kyla Curtis tied for eighth in the pole vault (7-feet-6).

The other two Tiger Cub relays also scored, with Taylor Ball, Josie Cox, Dobbs and Kyra Bandy fourth in the 4x100 (4:28.85) and Penny Cummings, Madilyn Hiatt, Cox and Bossnack fourth in the 4x800 (10:50.55).

Aside from Ford, the Cloverdale effort included Olivia Hemmerling placing fourth in the 300 hurdles (49.04) and fifth in the long jump (15-feet-4). Emily Mann was sixth in the shot put (31-feet-9), while Jacie Neese was seventh in the 100 hurdles (18.03).

The Clover 4x400 relay team of Neese, Mann, Ford and Hemmerling was sixth (4:31.74).

In addition to advancing in the discus, the Cougars’ Lawson placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 32 feet, 6.5 inches. Jenna Day was also fifth in the 800 (2:32.80), while Kassidy Hackleman was seventh in the long jump (15-2.75), and Sienna Williams was eighth in the 400 (1:08.60).

All three Cougar relays also tallied points, led by a fifth-place finish in the 4x800 from Melanie Davies, Madilyn Trent, Brooke Hensley and Day (10:56.70) and eighth-place finishes in the other two relays, featuring Layla Hassar, Addi Osburn, Graci Hollis and Samie Hoops in the 4x100 (54.88) and Saylor Carrell, Trent, Hensley and Hackleman in the 4x400 (4:39.06).

The Eagles picked up a pair of fourth-place finishes in addition to Brickert’s performance. Jasmine Guzman ran the 100 in 13.12 seconds, while the 4x100 team of Brickert, Elise Kendall, Isabella Fanning and Guzman came home in 53.91 seconds.

The Bloomington North Regional is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21.
