County Jail

Eleven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 2:35 a.m. Scott D. Griffin, 49, Roachdale, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

Wednesday

• At 6:02 p.m. Amber L. Bennett, 38, Fillmore, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 8:33 a.m. Daniel Castaneda, 31, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail for residential entry and theft.

• At 3:14 a.m. Lyric B. Chambers, 20, Danville, was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 2:48 a.m. Jamie Urbina-Aurauz, 24, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 2:40 a.m. Mary K. Love, 56, Brazil, was taken into custody for possession of marijuana, driving without receiving a license and driving while intoxicated.

Tuesday

• At 5:11 p.m. Zachary L. Benassi, 31, Brazil, was booked in for probation violation.

• At 3:30 p.m. Michael A. Bardales, 22, Lebanon, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 2:17 p.m. Christopher A. Fields, 46, Brazil, was taken into custody for probation violation.

• At 7:46 p.m. Juan C. Garza Santiago, 28, Kansas City, Kan., was housed at the jail for resisting law enforcement and driving while intoxicated.

• At 3:28 p.m. Keith H. Smiley, 24, Shelbyville, was booked in for possession of stolen property.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six incidents between Monday morning and Thursday morning:

• At 6:43 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched for a tree into power lines near County Road 350 South on U.S. 231. Firefighters arrived at 6:49 and determined these were communication lines, while the tree was sticking out into the roadway. Having its aerial truck, GFD trimmed the tree before the unit went back into service at 7:22 p.m.

• At 1:27 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident without injuries at U.S. 231 and County Road 100 North. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 1:37 to an abandoned vehicle that was off the roadway. Once the vehicle was inspected, GFD went back into service at 2:07 a.m.

• At 5:33 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to Silander House at DePauw University for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:36 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 5:41 p.m.

• At 6:13 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to 6 E. Washington St. for a fire alarm in an apartment above Eli’s Books. Firefighters arrived at 6:16 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:22 p.m.

• At 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to 2138 W. Range Line Rd. for a smell of gas in the residence. Firefighters arrived at 10:58 and did not detect any gas. GFD went back into service at 11:15 p.m.

• At 5:01 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Dirks House at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:07 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 5:15

Additionally, GFD responded for nine medical assists and had two disregards during this timeframe.
