BRAZIL — Greencastle was 10 days removed from winning the WIC Boys’ Golf Match and it matched that effort by winning the Putnam County Golf Match Tuesday evening at Oak Ridge GC.

As has been the case all year, the Cubs’ depth showed its form as they placed all five members of their team on the All-County squad. Greencastle totaled a team score of 164, paced by the Putnam County Champion Bryson Worman who shot a 35. Worman was three strokes better than his closest competitor.

“Bryson was really good today. Ben (Zellers) had a great conference round (runner-up in the WIC) and Bryson got it done today,” Greencastle head coach Rob Worman said of the county medalist.

The Cloverdale Clovers could not match the depth of the Cubs but had the second- and third-place finishers in the county. Zach Thomas carded a 38 while Eli Kelley was on his heels with a 39 to give Cloverdale two spots on the All-County squad.

Greencastle’s squad rounded out the seven-man All-County squad with Zellers placing fourth with a 39, then a trio of 45’s by Zane Huber, Sam White and Jackson Rodgers.

“It is the bottom of your lineup that makes a great team. We have great depth and that is what it takes to win as a team,” Worman said.

Cloverdale had a team score of 174 as Noah Betz shot a 46 after being out all year with a knee injury, but played competitively in his final county match. Carson Caulkins and Houston Jobe rounded out the Clover second-place team.

North Putnam’s squad finished third with a 208 as Brody Braeger led the way with a 50, while the South Putnam Eagles scored a 228 with Aiden Brinkman shooting a 52 to lead the Eagles.

“Our team just had two losses since the conference, which we haven’t had, and I think we came in really focused,” Worman said.
