City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department reported 11 incidents between Wednesday afternoon and Monday morning:

• At 1:49 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Pi Beta Phi at DePauw University for a sprinkler activation. Firefighters arrived at 1:54 and were advised by construction crews that they hit a sprinkler head. They advised that a company would be contacted for repairs. GFD went back into service soon after arrival.

• At 6:59 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched for a vehicle fire at 915 Hillcrest Dr. Firefighters arrived at 7:04 p.m. after the homeowner extinguished the fire with a garden hose. After the vehicle was checked, GFD went back into service at 7:30 p.m.

• At 9:06 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident without injuries at the intersection of Indianapolis Road and 10th Street. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 9:08 and cleared debris from the roadway. GFD went back into service at 9:22 p.m.

• At 11:38 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 920 S. Indiana St. for an unauthorized burning. Firefighters arrived at 11:41 and found the homeowner burning a stump. The homeowner was advised of the city burn ordinance and the fire was extinguished. GFD went back into service at 11:51 a.m.

• At 11:38 a.m. on Friday, GFD located another burn at 1002 S. Indiana St. Firefighters arrived at 11:41 and determined the homeowner was following the city burn ordinance. GFD went back into service at 11:51 a.m.

• At 1:17 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident with injuries at 179 N. CR 225 East. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 1:36 and found a vehicle with power lines on it. The driver remained inside the vehicle until Parke County REMC arrived and secured the power. Care of the driver was then transferred to EMS while debris was cleared. GFD went back into service at 3:38 a.m.

• At 9:29 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched for smoke in the area of Cassida Drive. Firefighters arrived at 9:33 and found a homeowner with a fire in their backyard. The homeowner was advised of the city burn ordinance, but the fire met its requirements. GFD went back into service at 9:37 p.m.

• At 6:22 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Lilienthal House at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 6:23 and did not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:25 a.m.

• At 12:13 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched for a tree in the roadway at 2704 E. CR 50 North. Firefighters found the tree at 12:28 and removed it. GFD went back into service at 1:08 p.m.

• At 7:31 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched for a smell of gas coming from a fireplace at The Inn at DePauw. Firefighters arrived at 7:35 and determined that the gas to the fireplace was off while no leak was found. GFD went back into service at 7:38 p.m.

• At 8:01 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched for a vehicle fire on County Road 100 North. Firefighters found the vehicle fully involved at 8:13 and quickly extinguished the fire. GFD went back into service at 9:09 p.m.

Additionally, GFD responded for 16 medical assists and had two disregards during this timeframe.
