BRAZIL — The Brazil Concert Band, directed by Matthew Huber, will open the 2024 season this Sunday, June 2 at 8 p.m. in Forest Park, rain or shine.

The band will honor D-Day, which took place on June 6, 1944, with a musical tribute to American veterans and allies who launched the largest military invasion of World War II in Normandy, France.

A variety of music will be presented, including “Armed Forces Salute” arranged by Bob Lowden, “The Homefront: Musical Memories From World War II” arranged by James Christensen and “Glenn Miller in Concert” arranged by Wayne Scott.

Saluting American troops, the band will perform “The Man Behind the Gun,” “The Glory of the Yankee Navy,” “Hail to the Spirit of Liberty” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever,” all by Lt. Cmdr. John Philip Sousa.

In honor of the Allies, the band will play “Colonel Bogey” by Kenneth J. Alford, “French National Defilé” by Andre Turlet and “March of the Belgian Parachutists” by Pieter Leemans and edited by Col. John R. Bourgeois.

A Sousa arrangement of “The Star-Spangled Banner” sung by Jay Hendrix will close the program.

The band performs every Sunday evening in June, July and August.
