Hackleman, Mowery-Shields advance to IHSAA Boys' Track State Finals

BLOOMINGTON ­— Two Putnam County athletes advanced to the IHSAA Boys’ Track and Field State Finals from the Bloomington North Regional Thursday.

North Putnam’s Nolan Hackleman will make a return trip to the finals after winning the long jump (21-09.50) while South Putnam freshman Keenan Mowery-Shields finished as runner-up at shot put (54-11) to claim a spot at the finals.

The Cougars and Eagles tied for 16th overall at the regional on 11 points with Greencastle finishing with three points. Hosts Bloomington North won the regional title with 153 points while rivals Bloomington South finished second on 96.5 points before a steep drop to Martinsville, who finished third by a point over Terre Haute South 33-32.

Hackleman was joined in the point positions by Matt Farrington, who finished eighth overall at long jump (20-05.25), while teammates Jeremiah Miles finished 12th overall in the 1,600-meter run (4:38.69).

South Putnam’s 3,200-meter relay team of Gabe Feltner, Emilio Gallegos, Evan Hinkle and Keaton Chew placed sixth overall (8:24.80) while Hayden Meredith finished 12th overall at high jump (5-10) and Ben Teipen finished 16th at discus (124-06).

Greencastle’s top finish came from Landon Miller, who finished sixth in the 3,200-meter run (9:41.01). The 400-meter relay team of Garret Cooper, Clay Glessner, Ian Williamson and Bryceton Nunn finished ninth on the day (45.15) while the 3,200-meter relay team of Miller, Daniel Dinn, Caleb Edwards and Charlie Menzel finished 11th overall (8:35.66) and Brendle Brennan finished 12th overall in the 110-meter hurdles (16.59), Cooper competed in the high jump but did not clear a height.

Cloverdale’s Harrison Tyler competed at pole vault but did not clear a height.
