Monday, June 3, 2024

Putnam County’s high schools were ranked recently among the state’s high schools by U.S. News & World Report.

Ranked 71st in Indiana, North Putnam High School was also 20th in the Indianapolis area specifically. Respectively, Greencastle High School was ranked 84th and 25th, South Putnam High School was rated 85th and 26th, and Cloverdale High School was listed 191th and 48th.

The rankings evaluate nearly 18,000 schools at the national, state and local levels.

The methodology focuses on unique factors, including college readiness, reading, math and science proficiency and performance, underserved student performance, breadth of college curriculum and graduation rates.

  • Those US News rankings are terrible. They can’t even accurately “rank” the nation’s colleges, let alone the much larger number of secondary schools. The people doing the rankings have no direct knowledge of what they’re judging; they just take the info the school sends them and shove it into a formula. Many colleges have already been exposed for manipulating those rankings.
