Cloverdale names Joey Hart new boys' basketball head coach

Monday, June 17, 2024 ~ Updated 6:45 PM

At a special meeting of the Cloverdale School Board, the school voted to approve the hiring of Joey Hart as the next Clover boys’ basketball coach.

Hart was most recently the coach at Linton in the 2022-23 school year, serving as head coach for 13 years at the school after beginning his coaching career with Shakamak before moving on to Turkey Run.

Hart was suspended twice in his final season as Linton head coach due to arrests during the season, the latter of which led the school to not renew his contract after the 2022-23 season.

At Linton, Hart led the Miners to three state title appearances and won postseason titles in nine of his 13 seasons in charge of the team.

Hart replaces Karl Turk, who was an assistant at Cloverdale before becoming head coach in the 2022-23 season. Turk was 4-44 in his two years as head coach of the Clovers.

  • How hypocritical Cloverdale! It’s unbelievable what you will ignore to hire a coach but won’t give an excellent teacher a shot at redeeming his career. What a joke!

  • Wow he was given a second chance then picked up a second DUI at Linton. He has been known to get players from other schools to come to Linton aka recruiting.Just ask anyone from Greene county and Sullivan about that. What a great role model for the kids. The Cloverdale athletic director and administration has dropped the ball on this one and it will end probably the same way it did at Linton, or he will only stay until his kids are out of school which ever comes first. Hope he proves us wrong

  • I wish him the best. Did some googling and most people who knew him loved him and felt bad about his struggles and they wish him well. Give the guy a chance; he's a good choice.

  • Who cares about recruiting.

Maybe, when you make your program very attractive, that kids are drawn to the better experience. If you don't, people won't come. Really simple!

Kind of like us finding a better job opportunity because a company has made itself attractive because of success.

  • What a role model for young men. Thankfully, my boys won't play for him.
