2023-24 All-Western Indiana Conference Spring Teams

With the conclusion of the spring sports season, the Western Indiana Conference has released its list of All-WIC athletes.

Athletes named to the baseball, softball and girls’ tennis teams are selected by the coaches of the WIC. Athletes in boys’ and girls’ track and boys’ golf are on the All-WIC team based on their performances at their respective WIC meets.

During the spring sports season, Putnam County teams won two conference championships as Greencastle won the girls’ tennis and boys’ golf titles.

Baseball

Jaylen Windmiller, North Putnam — Led the Cougar offense with 17 RBI and six doubles, hitting .400 with 26 hits, five runs scored and a team-high .523 slugging rate with only four strikeouts on the season. Fielded at a .786 rate with 19 putouts and three assists against six errors. On the mound, Windmiller was 5-3 with a 1.45 ERA over 58 innings, allowing 51 hits, 22 runs, 12 earned and 11 walks against 101 strikeouts.

Drake Hoffa, Cloverdale — Led the Clover offense with 13 RBI and eight doubles, along with the top slugging rate of .467. Hit .300 with 18 hits and seven runs scored, fielding at a .952 rate with 41 putouts and 18 assists against three errors. On the mound, Hoffa was 6-3 with a 2.16 ERA over 61 2/3 innings, allowing 46 hits, 23 runs, 19 earned and 21 walks against 76 strikeouts.

Brogan Woodall, North Putnam — Hit .373 with 25 hits, 19 runs, six RBI and four doubles. Stole a team-high 13 bases while fielding at a .974 rate with 34 putouts and two assists against a single error.

Wyatt Mullin, South Putnam — Led the Eagle offense in multiple categories including batting average at .421 with 16 hits, eight runs scored, four doubles and a home run, along with team-high slugging (.605) and OPS (1.081) percentages and eight stolen bases. Fielded at a .912 rate with 31 putouts against three errors. On the mound, Mullin was 1-4 with a 6.51 ERA over 33 1.3 innings, allowing 48 hits, 39 runs, 31 earned and 23 walks against 42 strikeouts.

Ben Campbell, Cloverdale — Hit .351 for the Clovers with 20 hits, 10 RBI, eight runs scored and six doubles, topping the team with seven stolen bases. Fielded at a .962 rate with 151 putouts and an assist against six errors.

Nathan Sutherlin, Greencastle — Led the Tiger Cub offense with 35 hits, 33 RBI and three triples. Hit .443 with 25 runs with three doubles and 15 stolen bases. Fielded at an .886 rate with 20 putouts and 42 assists against eight errors. On the mound, Sutherlin was 3-0 with a 2.31 ERA over 30 1/3 innings, allowing 21 hits, 15 runs, 10 earned and 14 walks against 37 strikeouts.

Sam Gooch, Greencastle — Led the Tiger Cub offense in batting average at .448 and runs scored at 26 along with team-high on-base (.578), slugging (.567) and OPS (1.145) percentages. Stole a team-high 25 bases. Fielded at a .900 rate with 32 putouts and 22 assists against six errors. On the mound, Gooch was 2-5 with a 2.33 ERA over 33 innings, allowing 27 hits, 17 runs, 11 earned and seven walks with 40 strikeouts.

Softball

Allie Beaman, Greencastle — Led Tiger Cub offense with 32 hits, 22 RBI, 22 runs, nine doubles and two home runs as well as slugging percentage (.583). Hit .381 during the season with a .987 OPS rate. Fielded at a .836 rate with 33 putouts and 13 assists against nine errors. Helped Greencastle win the Putnam County Softball Tournament and the school’s first sectional since 1998.

Keelie Price, Cloverdale — Led the Clover offense in batting average at .407 with 24 hits and five doubles, as well as on-base percentage (.417) and was second in slugging (.525) and OPS (.942). Fielded at a .976 rate with 38 putouts and two assists against a single error.

Ali Hassler, Greencastle — In the circle, Hassler was 9-10 with a 3.42 ERA over 139 innings, allowing 174 hits, 113 runs, 68 earned, with 201 strikeouts against 19 walks. Hit .268 with 19 hits, 10 RBI, four doubles and two home runs. Fielded at a .913 rate with 35 putouts and seven assists against four errors. Helped Greencastle win the Putnam County Softball Tournament and the school’s first sectional since 1998.

Hailee Daigle, North Putnam — Led the Cougar offense in batting average at .468 with 36 hits, 30 runs and a .51 on-base percentage. Stole 31 bases during the season while fielding at a .982 rate with 42 putouts and 12 assists against a single error.

Braylin Boruff, South Putnam — Led the Eagle offense in batting average at .411 with 46 hits, 29 runs and three triples, along with on-base (.564), slugging (.667) and OPS (1.242) percentages. Added 20 RBI, six doubles and a home run while only striking out five times in 103 plate appearances. Fielded at a .915 rate with 58 putouts and seven assists against six errors. In the circle, Boruff went 5-4 with a 2.56 ERA in 57 1/3 innings, allowing 54 hits, 31 runs, 21 earned and 18 walks against 51 strikeouts.

Adrie Burge, South Putnam — Hit .362 with 29 hits, 21 runs, 19 RBI, five doubles, three triples and led the team with four home runs. Had .414 on-base, .650 slugging and 1.04 OPS percentages with eight strikeouts in 87 at-bats. Fielded at a .952 rate with 76 putouts and four assists against four errors.

Boys’ Track and Field

Keenan Mowery-Shields, South Putnam — Won the shot put with a throw of 52-05.50. Won the Terre Haute North Sectional with a throw of 54-01 and qualified for the IHSAA Boys’ Track and Field State Finals from the Bloomington North Regional with a throw of 54-11, finishing second at the regional and setting a new school record with the toss. Placed 19th overall at the finals with a throw of 49-03.

Brendle Brennan, Greencastle — Won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.09. Finished third at the Terre Haute North Sectional with a time of 16.11 and finished 12th at the Bloomington North Regional in a time of 16.59.

Ben Teipen, South Putnam — Won the discus with a throw of 157-08.50, setting a new school record with the toss. Won the Terre Haute North Sectional with a throw of 150-08 and finished 16th at the Bloomington North Regional with a throw of 124-06.

Matt Farrington, North Putnam — Won the long jump with a distance of 19-09, winning on jumps over Sullivan’s Zane Catlin. Finished fourth in the event at the Terre Haute North Sectional with a distance of 19-10.75 and eighth at the Bloomington North Regional with a distance of 20-05.25.

Harrison Tyler, Cloverdale — Won the pole vault with a clearance of 12-06, winning on jumps over Sullivan’s Isaac Bedwell. Finished fourth at the Terre Haute North Sectional with a clearance of 11-06 but was unable to clear a height at the Bloomington North Regional.

Girls’ Track and Field

Bailey Brickert, South Putnam — Won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.77. Finished second at the Terre Haute North Sectional in a time of 15.45 and finished fifth at the Bloomington North Regional in a time of 15.77.

Mackinley Lawson, North Putnam — Won the discus with a throw of 114-02.50. Finished third at the Terre Haute North Sectional with a throw of 105-10 and fifth at the Bloomington North Regional with a throw of 122-11.

Callee Riggle, North Putnam — Won the shot put with a throw of 34-02.

Boys’ Golf

Ben Zellers, Greencastle — Finished as runner-up with a round of 76, dropping a playoff to Northview’s Lane Notter for medalist honors as the Tiger Cubs won the conference title by 20 strokes with a round of 326. Shot 85 at the Martinsville Sectional as Greencastle finished third to advance to the Harrison (Lafayette) Regional, where he shot 83 as the Tiger Cubs finished ninth overall on 352.

Bryson Worman, Greencastle — Finished a shot off the leaders with a round of 77, as the Tiger Cubs won the conference title by 20 strokes with a round of 326. Shot 76 at the Martinsville Sectional, tied for fifth overall, as Greencastle finished third to advance to the Harrison (Lafayette) Regional, where he shot 84 as the Tiger Cubs finished ninth overall on 352.

Eli Kelley, Cloverdale — Finished fourth overall with a round of 79 as the Clovers finished fifth overall on 369. Shot 81 at the Martinsville Sectional to be the first golfer to advance without a team as Cloverdale finished sixth overall on 344. Finished his Clover golf career with a round of 91 at the Harrison (Lafayette) Regional.

Jackson Rodgers, Greencastle — Shot a round of 84 as the Tiger Cubs won the conference title by 20 strokes with a round of 326.

Zane Huber, Greencastle — Shot a round of 89 as the Tiger Cubs won the conference title by 20 strokes with a round of 326. Shot 88 at the Martinsville Sectional as Greencastle finished third to advance to the Harrison (Lafayette) Regional, where he shot 87 as the Tiger Cubs finished ninth overall on 352.

Girls’ Tennis

Allie Landry, Greencastle — Went undefeated in WIC play and finished the season 22-3 at No. 1 singles. Helped the Tiger Cubs win their fourth-straight sectional title. Was named to the IHSTECA All-District team and All-State Honorable Mention.

Maddie Landry, Greencastle — Went undefeated in WIC play and finished the season 24-1 at No. 2 singles. Helped the Tiger Cubs win their fourth-straight sectional title and was the lone winner in the 4-1 loss to Terre Haute South in the Terre Haute North Regional. Was named to the IHSTECA Academic All-State team and to the IHSTECA All-District team and All-State Honorable Mention.

Bella Monnett/Sophie Riggle, Greencastle — Went 7-1 in WIC play and finished the season 14-3 at No. 1 doubles. Helped the Tiger Cubs win their fourth-straight sectional title. Both were named to the IHSTECA Academic All-State team and IHSTECA All-District team and All-State Honorable Mention.

Sydney Boswell, South Putnam — Played at No. 1 singles for South Putnam, winning a pair of matches for the Eagles.

In addition to the All-WIC awards, the conference awarded 71 Putnam County athletes with Academic All-WIC honors.

  • Why would a state qualifier in track and field not be worthy of making the team?

  • They have to place first in their event for track and field in conference to make all conference.
