Three men were arrested on felony charges by Greencastle Police following two incidents early Monday evening.

The three men — two from Terre Haute and one from Indianapolis — are facing preliminary felony charges of robbery, residential entry and battery, while one of them faces additional charges from the second incident.

At 5:08 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residential entry and burglary call at Castlebury Apartments that had resulted in injury to the occupant of the apartment. Officers were advised that the suspects were possibly armed.

While officers were en route, they were advised that three suspects had left the apartment. They were provided with a description of the three suspects along with the vehicle that they had left in.

At 5:14 p.m., GPD was dispatched to a separate call on North Arlington Street involving a male with a firearm walking around outside of a residence. Again, while they were en route, officers learned the man had left the area after getting into a vehicle.

Upon officers’ arrival, descriptions of the suspect and vehicle were provided by the caller that matched the descriptions given of the Castlebury incident. It was learned that two other subjects were present at the time, also matching descriptions given at the Castlebury incident.

The complainant stated that the initial male had also made entry into this residence before fleeing in the vehicle.

Information was relayed by officers from both scenes to dispatch in attempts to locate the suspects.

Then at 5:32 p.m., an Indiana State Police trooper observed a vehicle that matched the description as well as one of the suspects on South Bloomington Street and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver exited the vehicle and did not comply with orders, entering a residence on Maple Avenue. After other officers arrived on scene, the suspect attempted to flee the residence, again refusing to comply with officers’ orders.

He was taken into custody after officers were able to subdue him by use of an electronic control device (tazer). GPD Capt. Brad Hiatt was on scene to arrest the suspect.

While en route to Maple Avenue, Greencastle Officer Alec Pettit observed two males matching the descriptions of the remaining suspects walking on Shadowlawn Avenue. Pettit made contact and after speaking with the men, he was able to determine that they were the remaining suspects, subsequently detaining them and transporting them for interviews. After interviews, they were both arrested for their involvement.

Those facing charges include the driver of the vehicle on Maple Avenue, Anthony Hicks, 56, Terre Haute, charged with Level 5 felony robbery, Level 6 felony battery, Level 6 felony residential entry, Level 6 felony operating while intoxicated with a prior offense, Class A misdemeanor resisting law enforcement and Class A misdemeanor driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

The two men located on Shadowlawn have been identified as Russell Woods, 41, Indianapolis, and Khahyil Moore, 30, Terre Haute. They were each charged with Level 5 felony robbery, Level 6 felony battery and Level 6 felony residential entry.

GPD was assisted with the apprehension and investigation by Indiana State Police, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, DePauw Police, Greencastle Fire Department and Putnam County EMS.

“This is a horrible incident that required a lot of law enforcement resources,” GPD Asst. Chief Ed Wilson said. “We are thankful for the assistance of outside agencies, their attention to detail with descriptions given over the radio as well as assistance on the scenes. Several high-priority calls at the same time, along with staff shortages, could have resulted in the suspects not being located and taken off of the streets.”
