This Saturday at 1 p.m., two kids will walk away with a brand new Trek Precaliber 20 bike in a shiny red or slick purple.

The bikes are intended for boys or girls ages 4 to 8, and will come with their own registration card and helmet.

The bike giveaway comes courtesy of Putnam County Hospital, McDonald’s of Greencastle and Putnam Parks & Pathways. It is all part of this year’s Pedal Putnam ride.

“I’ve seen other cycling events give bikes to kids, including Marc O’Leary’s work with Dust Bowl, and just loved the idea,” said Wes Kendall, ride director for Pedal Putnam. “I’m also fortunate to know Brooke Trissel from Putnam County Hospital and Paul Jedele from McDonald’s. They loved the idea and were proud to donate money to buy these bikes.”

The bikes come from J’s Bikes in Terre Haute, and store owner Jerry Harnack has promised to work with whoever wins the bikes to make sure they fit properly. Retailing at $330, the Precaliber 20 is an excellent choice for new riders.

Families and kids can register for the bike giveaway and see the bikes at Pedal Putnam’s registration on Friday night and Saturday morning. Registration forms will be available at Lost Hollow on 102 E. Franklin St. from 5:30-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 7:30-8:30 a.m.

Two lucky winners will be randomly drawn at 1:15 p.m. inside Lost Hollow near the main stage.
