Leona Mae Brothers

Leona Mae Brothers, 84, of Avon, formerly of Greencastle and Spencer, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024.

Born June 26, 1939 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Thomas and Florence (Spurling) Salyers.

She was a 1956 graduate of Patricksburg High School.

Leona retired from Owen County State Bank, where she worked as a loan officer. She previously worked at Galyan’s Grocery Store in Plainfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold Brothers; three brothers, Raymond (Naomi) Salyers, Don (Marty) Salyers and Bobby Salyers; and sister Juanita (Oscar) Weekly.

Leona is survived by her children, Harolyn Robinson, Jeff (Julie) Brothers and Larry (Rose Brennan) Brothers; a sister, Charlotte (Jack) Bell; two stepchildren, Brian (Yvonne) Traverse and Stephanie McKean; grandchildren Ericka, Vern, Chris, Tracy, Jared and Jeremy; great-grandchildren Chase, Michael, Elizabeth, Byron, Gavin, Lakin and Emma; seven great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Mary Salyers.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. on Wednesday until time of service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Leona to the humane society of the donor’s choice.
