County Jail

Five people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 4:05 a.m. Jaylen Martin, 22, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

Tuesday

• At 6:31 p.m. Douglas R. Riley, 29, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

• At 5:28 p.m. Landon A. Swearingen, 31, Terre Haute, was housed at the jail for probation violation.

• At 3:13 p.m. David M. Baugh, 23, Indianapolis, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine and receiving stolen property

• At 1:33 p.m. Samuel J. Weekly, 44, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 1:08 p.m. Wednesday, Devin A. Myers, 30, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Luke Brown.

Taken into custody at a Castlebury residence, Myers was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a pair of local warrants for theft of a firearm and violation of bond on original charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, Stacy Woodruff, 41, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Jared McDaniel.

Taken into custody at an Elizabeth Street residence, Woodruff was held at the Putnam County Jail on a local warrant for battery.

Two recent speeding citations were issued by city officers:

• At 7:42 p.m. Wednesday, Kaleb Jist, 17, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer McDaniel.

Stopped at State Road 240 and Warren Drive, Jist was cited for 50 mph in a 40-mph zone.

• At 7:27 p.m. Wednesday, Gloria Tiwari, 63, Bloomington, was ticketed by Officer McDaniel.

Stopped at Veterans Memorial Highway and Putnamville Street, Tiwari was cited for 50 mph in a 40-mph zone.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to seven dispatches since Monday morning.

• At 7:13 p.m. on Wednesday, crews were called to a fire alarm at 6 E. Washington St. in an apartment above Eli’s Books. Arriving at 7:19 p.m., they discovered it was due to cooking. They reset the alarm and retuned to service at 7:24 p.m.

• At 8:38 a.m. on Wednesday, firefighters responded for a gas smell at 43 Briarwood Ct. Arriving at 8:51 a.m., crews completed an investigation but were unable to locate a leak. They returned to service at 8:55 a.m.

• Between 10:49 p.m. on Tuesday at 12:58 a.m. on Wednesday, firefighters responded three times to alarms at 330 Greenwood Ave. Initially finding no problem, they discovered a malfunction on the second visit. Arriving for a third time, crews found the alarm company on the scene. They spoke to company representatives, who agreed to make repairs to the system. They returned to service for the final time at 1:11 a.m.

• At 1:24 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to an alarm at 309 E. Franklin St. Arriving at 1:38 p.m., the determined it was the security alarm and assisted with resetting it. They returned to service at 1:45 p.m.

• At 10:29 a.m. on Monday, crews were called to an alarm at 904 S. College Ave. They arrived at 10:38 a.m. to find it was activated due to construction work. The alarm was reset, and GFD returned to service at 10:39 a.m.

Firefighters also responded to three medical dispatches, as well as being disregarded en route to two other calls.
