Heather Leigh Killie

Heather Leigh Killie, 41, passed away July 27, 2024 at Gibson Family Center for Hospice.

Heather was born June 3, 1983 in Brazil to Gary “Hammer” and Merrie (Metz) Nees.

Heather graduated from South Putnam High School in 2002. During high school, she was the state president of the Business Professionals of America. After graduation, she attended Indiana State University where she was Gongaware Scholar. She graduated from ISU in 2006 with her bachelor's degree in insurance risk management.

Heather moved to Chicago, where she worked at Northern Trust. After returning home she worked for First Financial as a trust officer and First Farmers Bank as a mortgage lender.

On July 15, 2017, Heather married Joseph Killie.

Heather enjoyed public speaking and was a founding member of the Brazil Toastmasters. She was a member of the Brazil Rotary Club. From the time that she was little, Heather was a writer, she loved writing poetry. In her free time, she enjoyed reading. She loved playing word games and was very competitive. She also loved going mushroom hunting.

Faith was very important to Heather. She was a member of Croys Creek Congregational Christian Church and had most recently been attending First Christian Church and Broken Church. She loved to read her Bible. Heather was a wonderful mother to her three children, Everett, Betty Jo and Zeke, whom she loved very much.

Heather was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Gordon and Mary Alice Nees.

Heather is survived by her husband, Joseph Killie; three children, Everett, Betty Jo and Zeke; parents Hammer and Merrie Nees; brothers Adam Nees and Wyatt Nees (Cait); maternal grandparents Jim and Esther Metz; paternal grandmother Marie Nees; and numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and extended family members.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, Aug. 2 from 4-8 p.m.. at Harmony Community Center, 1518 U.S> 40, Brazil.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heather’s children C/O First Farmers Bank and Trust.
