Evelyn ‘Evie’ May Frank

Evelyn “Evie” May Frank, 99, died peacefully Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Mill Pond Health Campus, Greencastle, following a brief illness.

Evie was born to the late Cecil Glen and Margaret May Frank on June 17, 1925 on Franks Hill Road, Poland. She was blessed to have been able to live in that same home until moving to Mill Pond in 2021.

As a young woman, Evie worked on the family farm helping her father with various livestock and farming activities. Eventually her focus would be on raising hogs, which she took over following her father’s death in 1961. When once asked about her career, she responded that she had always thought of herself as a “Lady Farmer.”

Evie was a member and elder at the Jordan Presbyterian Church until it closed. Evie was also active in the Poland Historical Chapel and was very interested in the history of Owen County as well as family genealogy. Evie loved to travel and take pictures, as well as learn about places, culture and religion. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, “Jeopardy!”, word searches and playing scrabble, anything to keep her mind active, as she would often say.

Evie never married or had children. She was a great role model and friend to her nieces and nephews. She was always grateful for a visit, a talk as well as a ride in the country, always telling us to come back anytime, she’d be there.

Evie is survived by sister-in-law Betty (Edwin) Frank; nieces Connie Geiger, Vicki (Mark) Qualls, Sandi Wolfram, Patti (Scott) Malone, Dinah (Louie Jr.) Geiger, Della (Mark) Geiger; nephew Gary Frank; great-nieces Hillary (Mike) Mazur, Andrea (Jason) Byrom and Rachel Qualls; great-nephews Chris (Rebecca) Geiger, Ryan Qualls and Scott Geiger; great-great-nieces and nephews as well as great-great-great-nieces and nephews.

Evie was preceded in death by her sisters, Doris Ison and Mary Lou (Louie) Geiger; brothers, Edwin Frank, Jack Frank and James Frank; sister-in-law Retha (Jack) Frank; brother-in-law Louie Geiger; nephews Louis Geiger, Jr., Mark Geiger, Jeffery Geiger and Larry Wolfram; and Goddaughter Diane Crick Query.

The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Mill Pond Health Campus and Intrepid Hospice for the care and friendship they have shown Evie during her time in their care. The family would also like to express our gratitude to Bonnie (Chuck) Macy and Sarah Lookabill for their continued visits with Evie at Mill Pond during her time there.

Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale is handling the arrangements. There will be no visitation, and a graveside service will be held at the Poland Chapel Cemetery in Poland, Indiana on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity or plant a tree in remembrance of Evie.
