Bridgeton Civil War Days slated for Aug. 24-25

BRIDGETON — The Parke County town of Bridgeton will offer a trip back in time to the days of the Civil War on Aug. 24 and 25.

Visitors can interact with the soldiers and civilians of the Civil War and learn about this pivotal time in American history. Hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Attendees can visit the authentic Union and Confederate camps and talk with the soldiers and civilians.

The 49th Indiana Co. F and the 44th Tennessee Co. K will be encamped by the 1822 Case Log Cabin. There will be a skirmish early in the afternoon both Saturday and Sunday in the hayfield by the Bridgeton RV Park. Visitors can watch both companies drill both mornings on the 1878 grounds. They can also see pioneer living demonstrations and learn about Indiana history at the cabin and in the 1878 barn, including blacksmithing, leatherwork, spinning, broom making and sewing historic clothing.

A visit to the Bridgeton Mill will show how grain was made into flour. Lunch is available at the Bridgeton Mill or at Collom’s.

A stroll through the Bridgeton Covered Bridge is recommended as a learning opportunity for kids of all ages. There is no admission fee and plenty of free parking.

Bridgeton is located in nine miles south of Rockville, or via State Road 59 North from Brazil to the Bridgeton highway sign.
