Putnam County Historian Larry Tippin to give presentation at museum

The Putnam County Museum will host a presentation about the courthouses and court sites used over the county’s more than 200 years of history on Thursday, Aug. 29 at the museum.

The courthouse paintings of Elisha Cowgill have been in the news recently. Everyone is invited to come learn some facts, figures and trivia about them.

Putnam County Historian Larry Tippin’s talk will begin at 6:30 p.m. This program is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

While at the museum, visitors can view the restored Cowgill paintings of two previous courthouses, along with other of his artwork. Elsewhere in the museum are a special exhibit featuring the works and specimens of naturalist Willis Blatchley, salutes to Asbury Towers’ 60th and the Putnam County Hospital’s 100th anniversaries and this year’s Putnam County Adult Visual Arts Exhibition.

The museum is located at 1105 N. Jackson St. in Greencastle. For more information, persons may call 653-8419.

Weekday museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and currently Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free. Donations are welcome.

The mission of the Putnam County Museum is to collect, preserve and interpret the natural, historical and cultural heritage of the county.
