Duke offers tips to help Hoosiers save energy, money as temperatures soar

PLAINFIELD – With temperatures soaring in Indiana, Duke Energy is providing tips to help customers save energy – and money.

High temperatures can lead to higher energy usage and higher bills as Duke Energy customers try to stay cool.

To help manage costs and to reduce overall energy demand, particularly during the afternoon hours when usage tends to peak, customers can follow these simple tips:

• Set your thermostat at the highest comfortable setting. The smaller the difference between the inside and outside temperatures, the lower your energy usage.

• Avoid using your washer/dryer and dishwasher during the day. If possible, delay using those appliances until evening.

• Close blinds and curtains during the day to help reduce solar heat gain and keep your home cooler.

• Microwaves and cooktops use less energy than electric ovens. Also consider outdoor grilling during those high-demand hours to keep your indoor temperatures lower.

• Using a ceiling fan can make a room feel cooler than it actually is. Remember, though, that fans cool people, not rooms, so turn them off when you leave the room.

• Turn off any unnecessary appliances, unused plug-ins and lights.

Duke Energy Indiana provides about 6,800 megawatts of owned electric capacity to approximately 900,000 customers in a 23,000-square-mile service area, including Putnam County, making it Indiana’s largest electric supplier.

That's awfully big of them. See, people? They care way more about us than their profits... Just look at all of the work it took them to make this huge list of tips to help us save money when they could've been outside working on infrastructural repairs! Because who needs those, am I right? If that's not an example of selflessness, I don't know what is. Anyone with any IQ worth noting understands how Duke Energy is the proverbial benchmark of institutional morality. Clearly they've exhausted every other avenue of helping us financially... I mean, if Duke Energy can't save us money, nobody can. What a great company!

  • DQ’s blood pressure would decrease if he would just go ahead and go off grid already.

I would, but doing so would deprive everyone of their one source of culture and enlightenment.

Duke Energy isn't the only entity susceptible to altruism.
