Green Light Art Festival to coincide with First Friday, Farmers Market

Monday, September 2, 2024

Partnering with a pair of other local organizations, Putnam County Comprehensive Services will bring the sixth-annual Green Light Art Festival to downtown Greencastle on Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7.

Presented by Green Light Art Studios and PCCS, the festival will take place during the First Friday (presented by Main Street Greencastle) from 5 p.m. to dusk and the Saturday Farmers Market (presented by the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce) from 8 a.m.-noon.

The two-day event will be an opportunity to check out more than 25 Hoosier artist vendor booths, enjoy the First Friday entertainment or the offerings of the farmers market and dine perhaps at one of the downtown Greencastle restaurants.

As a division of PCCS, Green Light Art Studios provides the developmentally disabled clients that PCCS service with the freedom to produce and sell their own artwork.

Meanwhile, First Friday will also feature three bands — the Joe Buckley Band on the Moore’s Stage, Big Daddy Caddy on the Courthouse Stage and Greencastle’s own Bluebird Collective on the Lost Hollow Stage.

The September First Friday will have more than 40 vendors with all types of items, information, food and drinks. As usual, there will be plenty of activities for kids, including a bounce house, crafts and games.

Following a recent heat wave, the weather looks to have cooled a bit with the turning of the calendar to September, making First Friday an opportunity to shake off the week and enjoy community in a music-, art- and food-filled setting.

“We encourage attendees to not just come to First Friday, but explore downtown Greencastle,” Main Street Director Russell Harvey said. “There are a lot of awesome businesses downtown and we hope that folks will check out all that downtown has to offer. It’s not just about what happens in the First Friday footprint — it’s a celebration of our entire downtown community. There’s a lot of places that folks can go to in the area, but Greencastle is the place to be.”
