Sept. 12 Compton Lecture to feature health care justice advocate Goldberg
The Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) program will welcome health care justice advocate and political communication professional Max Goldberg to DePauw University for this fall’s Compton Lecture on Thursday, Sept. 12.
The Compton Lecture Series is supported by the Wright Fund.
Max Goldberg is a co-founder of JOIN, a communications and strategy firm helping progressive initiatives reach and mobilize the right people to build their movements.
Since its founding in 2019, JOIN has exposed abuses of intellectual property by pharmaceutical companies in monopolizing life-saving drugs, stood up against corporate-led attacks on worker rights and consumer protections, moved young Nevadans and Arizonans to participate in the 2022 midterms, fought to end the subminimum wage in New York State and much more.
Mr. Goldberg will discuss political organizing ahead of the November election. The lecture begins at 4:15 p.m. in Watson Forum at the Pulliam Center for Contemporary Media. The title of his talk is “Civic Engagement as a Means to an End.”
The fall 2024 Compton Lecture is organized by the Peace and Conflict Studies program and co-sponsored by the School of Business and Leadership, the Global Health program and the departments of Political Science and Communication and Theatre. This event is free and open to the public.
The Compton Lecture is named in honor of Professor Russell J. Compton (1909-2007), who taught at DePauw from 1951 until 1974, and remained active in the life of the university afterward.
On Feb. 23, 2000, DePauw University honored the longtime educator and activist by dedicating the Russell J. Compton Center for Peace and Justice.
