Eagles return from break, fall 5-0 to Vikings
South Putnam came back to the tennis courts after an extended break Wednesday night, falling to West Vigo 5-0 in WIC boys’ tennis play.
No. 2 doubles pair Robert Emmerich and Jackson Webster put up a spirited fight in the opening set against Mylo Bennett and Brayden Scott but lost the opener and eventually the match 6-4, 6-1.
The other four courts went quickly as Luke Hutcheson fell at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0 to Brandon Dailey while Colton Enyeart defeated Aiden Brinkman 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Jack Readinger was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Braydon Pollack, as were Bryce Easton and Jayce Noblitt over Grant Jackman and William Schurtter at No. 1 doubles.
“Tonight, what hurt us was that we had a four or five day stretch where we didn’t play tennis,” South Putnam head coach Johnnie Briones said. “We started off slow but then started to pick it up a little bit.
“We get to deuce and the guys kind of tense up, which affects the outcome of the game. Every night, I see a lot of good things going on but we just need more of it.”
