The Greencastle Tiger Cub volleyball squad cruised to a three set sweep of the Cloverdale Clovers, behind 18 service aces and a balanced attack, to improve to 3-0 in the WIC.

The young Clover squad, with no seniors, battled early on in the match. A kill from Adelaide Meyerrose and an ace by Jimma Harrison knotted the opening set at 7-7.

Greencastle’s Meilani York then went to the service line and the Cubs rattled off 15-straight points to take control. Kills from Rhoan Amis, Allie Landry and a pair from Hayley Owens would close out the opening set 25-11.

The second set seemed a near carbon copy of the first.

The Clovers stayed close in the early going. After a Meghan Halloran kill, the set was tied at 6-6.

Another big run from the Cubs, taking 16 of 17 points, was sparked again from York with three more aces. Another kill from Landry would close it out with an identical 25-11 score.

“(Greencastle) is a really good hitting team. Tonight we were a little slower than we have been. We are hoping to have a good tournament this weekend. I feel like if we get a couple more wins we can really take off,” Clover coach Paige Glassburn said.

Greencastle would take control early in the third set. Behind a balanced attack, seven different Cubs recorded kills in the set.

York picked up three more aces for a game high nine, as Greencastle racked up 18 as a team.

Owens would close out the match with a kill and take it 25-6.

“We’ve moved around some positions a little. Our pins have really worked hard to develop different shots with our powerful middles. Meilani has been playing really well, both behind the service line and on defense,” Tiger Cub coach Denise Meyer said.

Greencastle moves to 9-5 on the season and 3-0 in the WIC as it gets set to get into the meat of conference play. Mackenzie Creviston led the attack with eight kills and two blocks. Landry, Keely Amis and Owens each had six each. York finished with nine aces.

For Cloverdale, Adelaide Meyerrose and Gracie Lee each had two kills to lead the Clovers.

Greencastle will next host Cascade, a future Monon Conference opponent, on Tuesday and the Clovers will play Pleasant View Christian to open the Lighthouse Christian Invite Saturday.
