Debra Lynn Alamo

Debra Lynn Alamo (Jones), 69, Greencastle, passed away on Sept. 5, 2024 at Hendricks Regional Health Hospital in Danville.

She was born in Greencastle on Dec. 11, 1954 to the late Marvin and Nellie (Dearing) Jones. Debra graduated from South Putnam High School in 1973. She married Pete Alamo on Aug. 22, 1985, and he survives.

Debra worked in apartment leasing and other various jobs before marrying her husband. Then she became an Army spouse, traveling and stationed in various stateside posts to include Hawaii and also stationed overseas for one tour in Germany. She enjoyed the traveling and getting to make new friendships. She did this for 11 years prior to her husband’s retirement in 1996.

After retirement she followed him to Columbia, S.C., and then Detroit, Mich., before finally making Greencastle her home again 1999.

Besides traveling, Debra loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to cook and was always trying new recipes. Her best dishes were homemade chicken and noodles and cherry cheesecake.

Debra was a life member of the Greencastle Women of the Moose Chapter 138 and Moose Lodge 1592. She joined the Moose in 2000. As a member of the Women of the Moose, she served in many leadership positions and earned the College degree of honor on July 6, 2011.

In addition to her parents, Debra is preceded in death by her brother, Bill Jones, and sisters Jane Sibbitt, Betty Arnold, Sharon Hoese and Cathy Clodfelter.

Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Pete Alamo; son Anthony Alamo; daughter Amy Hicks; grandchildren Brianna (Cody) Walker, Daisha Hicks, Trey Hicks, Brandon Hicks, Branden Hicks, Noah Hicks, Khloe Alamo, Camille Alamo and Kingston Alamo; brother Eddie Jones; sister Rosemary Woods; sister-in-law Sharon Jones; brothers-in-law Bill Sibbitt, Danny Arnold and Terry Clodfelter; as well as several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. at the Greencastle Moose Lodge, 212 W. Franklin St, Greencastle.
