The Humane Society of Putnam County welcomed a very special guest on Thursday. Kris Rotonda, founder of Jordan’s Way stopped by the shelter as part of what he is calling the “Jordan’s Way National Tour.”

Rotonda began Jordan’s Way in 2019, and his mission is to visit every animal shelter in the country to help raise money for them. For three hours at the humane society on Thursday, Rotonda went live on Facebook and had the volunteers and staff at the shelter participate in various challenges to help raise money.

When all was said and done at the end of the three hours, the humane society raised $8,109.

“Kris and Jordan’s Way reached out to us about three weeks ago and that’s how we got the ball rolling on this,” HSPC Volunteer Tammy Eastham said. “Of course we jumped on the opportunity to do something like this. We were clamoring for volunteers because it requires a certain number to put something on like this. We’ve been blown away with the support that we’ve gotten with the community. So many people have stepped up to come out and they’ve all done a terrific job. We had over 30 people who came and volunteered their time to make this happen.”

Through his nationwide tour of shelters, Rotonda and Jordan’s Way have raised nearly $10 million since they began in 2019.

As most shelters do, HSPC relies heavily on donations, volunteers and many other things that people do out of the kindness of their heart. Eastham is one of those volunteers and also talked about how the humane society has continued to have a great relationship with the Putnam County community.

“We do have collaborations with many different organizations and groups like Rescued Treasures so when people purchase something from there, that money goes straight to us here at the humane society,” she said. “Our relationship with the sheriff’s department is amazing too. Of course we could always use monetary donations and any kind of food for the animals. Anytime we’re running low on those kind of things, the community does such an amazing job and steps up.”

People are still encouraged to donate to the humane society as the link to donate can be found on its Facebook page and will still be available until next Sept. 19. To donate visit https://www.facebook.com/donate/1021400872565758.
