11th annual Oktoberfest event at St. Paul’s this Saturday

Monday, September 30, 2024

St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Greencastle will host its 11th annual Oktoberfest event this Saturday, Oct. 5.

Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, the event will unfold from 3-10 p.m. at 202 E. Washington St. with live music, a variety food and activities.

Throughout the years, the idea behind the annual event has been to bring the community and the parish together for a day of fun and fundraising.

“Oktoberfest is a great festival for our parish, it serves as a homecoming for our parish, and it also brings the community together,” spokesman Matt Welker said. “All are welcome at Oktoberfest.”

No prices have been raised since the event began, Welker said, with the exception of the homemade corndogs made by Rock and Mary Beth Kaiser, which are now $3. The corndogs are based on a family recipe from an Evansville drive-in.

The event will include live acoustic music by Joe Wright of Sullivan from 6-10 p.m.

Outdoor activities are planned in the church parking lot. Games of chance, raffle drawings, children’s activities, food, beer (both craft and domestic) and wine will be featured.

Children’s activities — including a bounce house, inflatables, games and prizes— are scheduled for 3-8 p.m.

Food will include ribeye steak sandwiches, brats and hamburgers with all of the meat from Myers’ Market.

Besides bingo, the church will also host a number wheel, blackjack and pull tabs.

Raffle drawing prizes will include cash, Indianapolis Colts tickets (in the second row from the field), golf gift certificates for Sultan’s Run, winery wine tasting, Myers’ Market, restaurant gift certificates and more. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

Discounted food, drink and game tickets are available if purchased prior to the event at St. Paul’s Church office (653-5678) before Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Discounted price is $25 in tickets for $20. Tickets are available at the event for the regular price.

Proceeds of Oktoberfest are distributed throughout the community, including annual donations to Beyond Homeless and CareNet Pregnancy Center, as well as contributing to youth activities within the parish.
