Joyce Ann Hanlon was born on Aug. 5, 1938 to Dorothy (Balay) and Delbert Unversaw of Martinsville, the second of four children Maurice Unversaw (deceased), Donna Broadstreet (Jerry) of Fillmore and Phyllis Bundrick (John – deceased) of Marion. 

Moving to Amo with her family in 1944, Joyce found her love of music and Bible studies at the First Baptist Church of Amo, where she sang her first solo at age seven. She gave her life to Jesus at the age of 11 and pursued her love of music with seven years of piano lessons, two years of vocal lessons and was a member of the four-handed piano players. After graduating from Amo High School, Joyce continued her education at Butler University in Indianapolis.

Joyce married Gary Floyd Hanlon of Amo on Feb. 14, 1960, and lived in Greencastle, where they raised their three children Terressa J. Braden (Dave) of Fishers, Michael D. Hanlon (Cheryl) of Greencastle and Lisa C. Whitaker (Steve) of Chesterton. 

Joyce was the director of music at First Baptist Church Greencastle for 23 years, and together with husband, Gary, ran Hanlon Insurance Agency and Prevo’s Department Store in Greencastle before retiring and moving to Lake Wales, Fla., for 16 years, and returning to Zionsville in 2020 to be near family. 

Joyce joined her Lord and Savior in her permanent home on Oct. 1, 2024.

Until they are one day reunited, she will be greatly missed by her husband of 64 years; her three children; as well as 11 grandchildren, Erik Braden (Keity) of Fishers, Sarra (Braden) Myers (Michael) of Carmel, Talor (Whitaker) Bassett (Adam) of Noblesville, Kyle Whitaker (Kaylee) of Valparaiso, Grant Braden (Erin) of Carmel, Drew Hanlon of Greencastle, Tony Hanlon of Griffith, Aaron Whitaker of Chesterton, Ethan Whitaker (Kelly) of Pensacola, Fla., Jordan York of Philadelphia, Pa., and Alyssa Wood (Wyatt) of Ingleside, Ill.; and 14  great-grandchildren, Claire, Leo, Jossalynn, Grayson, Hayes, Mack, Luke, Lane, Wren, Kenzington, Stetson and three more who are on the way.

Services will be Monday, Oct 7 at the First Baptist Church of Greencastle, 404 N. Judson Dr. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m.- noon followed by funeral service at noon.

There will also be a celebration of life at the Hoosier Village Chapel, 9787 Hoosier Village Dr., Indianapolis, on October 14 at 10 a.m. In leu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Greencastle or Hoosier Village Chapel of Zionsville.
