County Jail

Ten people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 9:43 p.m. Devin Smith, 22, Greencastle, was booked in for driving without receiving a license.

Saturday

• At 5:32 p.m. Justin Homler, 51, Fillmore, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated, resisting law enforcement and leaving the scene of an accident.

• At 11:38 a.m. Amber Bennett, 38, Terre Haute, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 2:31 a.m. Caleb Isenman, 24, Greencastle, was booked in for driving while intoxicated.

Thursday

• At 12:25 a.m. Loriann Sweeney, 45, Sullivan, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated endangering a person.

Tuesday, Oct. 1

• At 12:30 p.m. Taureen Terry, 42, Greencastle, was booked in for possession of methamphetamine, possession paraphernalia with a prior conviction and invasion of privacy.

Monday, Sept. 30

• At 11:48 p.m. Todd Marsee, 58, Coatesville, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 7:58 p.m. Sheryl Smith, 52, Quincy, was taken into custody for battery and aggressive driving.

• At 4:24 p.m. Ashlie Johnston, 37, Bainbridge, was housed at the jail for probation violation.

• At 3:20 p.m. Cheecoawa Withrow, 26, Cloverdale, was booked in on a local warrant.

City Police

Four recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers, including a Clay County man being charged with child solicitation on Saturday night:

• At 10:36 p.m. Saturday, Christopher Brown, 34, Brazil, was arrested by Sgt. Zach Rhine at the Walmart Supercenter on the city’s East Side.

Taking into custody on a charge of child solicitation, Brown allegedly had arranged a meeting with what he believed was a 14-year-old subject but turned out to be a decoy from a child predator investigative group.

Brown was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

• At 8:56 p.m. Friday, Aleczandra Garrett, 20, Greencastle, was arrested by Det. Darrel Bunten, who was called to 1151 N. Jackson St. on the report of a subject trying to drive on the railroad tracks.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Garrett is facing charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and possession of paraphernalia.

Under blood-alcohol concentration testing, Garrett registered .24 percent, or three times the legal limit in Indiana.

• At 11:11 Friday, James Tiedemann, 56, Greencastle, was arrested at the Greencastle Inn on Bloomington Street by Det. Bunten.

Tiedemann was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on two counts of theft and a Putnam County warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of criminal mischief.

According to police, Tiedemann reportedly stole two packs of Pall Mall cigarettes, valued at $15.90, from the Casey’s store on U.S. 231 South.

• At 9:09 p.m. Thursday, Timmy Wright, 58, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Billy DeWitt.

Stopped on East Seminary Street, Wright was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated-refusal and lodged in the local jail. He was also cited for being an operator never receiving a license.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to several recent dispatches 

• At 7:23 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1 crews responded to a fire alarm at 107 W. Hanna St. Upon investigation the crew determined the alarm system was activated due to cooking and reset the alarm and returned to service at 7:38 p.m.

• At 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, GFD responded to an electrical issue at 436 Anderson St. Originally 911 Dispatch called in the report as a structure fire but when crews arrived they found it was an electrical issue from a water leak that had leaked into an outlet. The outlet shorted out, but there was no fire present. Crews secured the power to the outlet then returned to service at 12:48 a.m. 

• At 2:37 a.m. Tuesday Oct. 2, GFD received a call about a fire alarm at 208 E. Olive St. Upon investigation, crews were unable to determine what activated the alarm system. They reset the alarm and returned to service at 2:46 a.m. 

• At 10:23 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, crews received a call regarding a fire alarm at 626 E. Seminary St. Upon investigation, crews were unable to determine what activated the alarm system. They reset the alarm and returned to service at 10:44 p.m. 

• At 1:42 p.m. Wednesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with no injuries at the intersection of South Jackson Street. and West Walnut Street. Crews arrived on scene and determined this was a property damage only accident. There were no injuries or clean up required and they returned to service at 1:50 p.m. 

• At 12:32 a.m. Thursday, GFD received notice of hazardous materials at 1252 S. Jackson St. Crews were called for a gas leak and they monitored the area and did not locate any leak. They returned to service at 12:49 a.m. 

• At 4:10 p.m. Thursday, crews responded to a dumpster fire at 300 S. Warren Dr. Upon arrival crews discovered a dump trailer full of scrap metal that was smoldering. Workers cooled the material with water and put the fire out. They returned to service at 4:32 p.m. 

• At 8:40 p.m. Friday, GFD was dispatched to a combine fire at 5766 E. State Rd. 240. Crews were called to assist Fillmore and they discovered there was no fire upon arrival. They checked for an extension and were not able to locate any and returned to service at 9:22 p.m.

• At 9:06 p.m. Friday, crews received a call for an animal rescue at 907 S. Locust St. There was a cat stuck in a tree approximately 15 feet in the air. They used a ladder to safely rescue the animal and returned to service at 9:41 p.m. 

• At 2:03 p.m. Saturday, GFD responded to a field fire near the intersection of West County Road 1200 North and North County Road 50 West. Crews were called to assist Roachdale Fire and once the fire was extinguished, they returned to service at 3:53 p.m. 

• At 8:39 p.m. Saturday, crews received notice of a fire alarm at 410 S. Indiana St. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was activated due to cooking. They reset the alarm and returned to service at 8:48 p.m .

• At 9:24 p.m. Saturday, GFD was called out to a building fire at 11633 S. CR 525 West. Crews were called to assist Reelsville on a structure fire. They assisted with the extinguishment and overhaul and once the fire was out crews returned to service at 1:49 a.m. 

• At 9:49 p.m. Saturday, crews were called to a fire alarm at 410 S. Indiana St. Upon arrival  it was determined that the alarm was activated due to cooking. They reset the alarm and returned to service at 9:55 p.m. 

• At 10:55 p.m. Saturday, GFD was dispatched to a fire alarm at 1306 S. Bloomington St. Upon arrival crews found that the alarm system had already been reset by staff members and that there was no fire. Crews returned to service at 11:09 p.m. 

• At 8:05 p.m. Saturday, crews received word of a fire alarm at 413 S. Locust St. Upon investigation, it was determined that the alarm was activated due to cooking. They reset the alarm and returned to service at 8:14 p.m.
