Phillip George Gibbs Jr.

Phillip George Gibbs Jr., 71, died on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Phil was born on Dec. 16, 1952, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of Phillip George Sr. and Betty Jane (Mason) Gibbs. He grew up in Frewsburg, N.Y., and graduated from Frewsburg High School. He also lived in Cloverdale and Indianapolis for many years before moving to Russell, Kan., in 2019, working as a heavy machinery mover and millwright.

He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Linda Lorena Harmon on Aug. 22, 2023, in Greencastle. He enjoyed his dogs, hunting, fishing and gun collecting. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife, Linda, around which his entire world revolved.

Surviving family include his loving wife Linda of the home and many longtime friends from New York and Indiana and new friends in Russell.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service to celebrate Phil’s life took will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 14 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell. Cremation has been selected by the family. Family will greet guests the day of the service. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kan., is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
