Fall Opioid Settlement Grant awards benefit 12 organizations

The Putnam County Commissioners recently approved the recipients of the 2024 fall Opioid Settlement Grant dollars, as recommended by the Putnam County Justice Reinvestment Advisory Council (JRAC).

A total of $264,958 will be awarded to a dozen organizations throughout the county to support opioid education, prevention, interdiction, counseling and recovery programs. These efforts will provide vital resources to those impacted by the opioid crisis and assist in addressing substance use disorders in our community.

Recipients of the Fall Opioid Settlement Grant Awards include:

• Mental Health America of Putnam County: $10,000

• Putnam County PIE Coalition for Red Ribbon Week Activities: $2,000

• Quest for Balance Wellness (Grief Support and Education): $3,300

• South Putnam High School: $8,500
• Putnam County PIE, Mental Health America of Putnam County, Mental Health America of Central Indiana (to bring the Hidden in Plain Sight Trailer to Cloverdale, South Putnam and North Putnam campuses): $10,500

• Cummins Behavioral Health Systems: $10,000

• Hamilton Center, Inc.: $1,708

• Family Support Services: $20,000

• Putnam County Jail: $162,500

• Isaiah 117 House: $25,000

• Putnam County Recovery Coalition: $5,700

• Putnam County Community Corrections: $5,750

These funds will assist a wide range of local programs aimed at making a positive impact in areas such as mental health support, addiction recovery, youth education and grief counseling. Programs like these are critical to curbing the opioid epidemic and fostering a healthier future for Putnam County residents.

The commissioners expressed their appreciation to the JRAC committee for its commitment and diligence in managing the grant process. Their work ensures that these funds are directed toward initiatives that will have the greatest positive impact on the community.

The next round of funding will be available in the spring of 2025. Applications for the Spring Opioid Settlement Grant Cycle are due by Wednesday, Feb. 5. Eligible applicants include community-based organizations, non-profit agencies, county agencies, municipalities and privately-owned businesses that work within Putnam County. Programs focusing on treatment, recovery, harm reduction, prevention and education are encouraged to apply.

The Opioid Settlement Grant Program, funded by national opioid litigation settlements, is designed to provide financial support to local organizations working to address the opioid crisis.
