Virginia W. (Renn) Schindler

Virginia W. (Renn) Schindler, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024 at the age of 97.

Born on July 25, 1927 to Raymond and Bertha (Roberts) Renn, Ginnie embraced life with an open heart and a generous spirit, leaving a legacy enriched by love, creativity and cherished memories.

Ginnie loved sewing, crocheting and piecing together puzzles. Reading was another joy, along with playing bingo. Each hobby and interest was a testament to her creative spirit.

Throughout her life, Ginnie was a true family woman, embracing her roles as Grandma, Gert, and Gigi with tremendous pride and joy. She enjoyed spending quality time with them, creating bonds that will last across generations.

Ginnie was the proud mother of Terry Schindler (Brenda), Jennifer “Sue” McCune (Pat), Carla Harrod (Kevin) and Pam Hobbs (Brian). Her children, along with her grandchildren —Amy Schindler-Moreland, James McCune (Jill), Jennifer Detlefsen (Will), Kristi Nelson (Roger), Brent Schindler (Allison), Jaclyn Michel (Brooks), Randy Hobbs (Kimberly), Mike Hobbs (Melissa) and Tom Hobbs (Charissa) — were a source of boundless happiness for her. In addition to her many grandchildren, Ginnie cherished each moment spent with her 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, who brought new light into her life.

She will be remembered fondly by her siblings, Aline Krakowski, Harold Renn (Joan), Lelia Popp (Maurice) and Evy Ems (Steve). 

Virginia is now reunited in eternal peace with her beloved husband, Carl “Moe” Schindler, and her siblings, Alvina Seng, Lucille Adamcyzk, Elvin Renn and Sylvester “Bud” Renn, who preceded her in death.

Visitation will take place from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Monday after 9 a.m. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church (415 E. 8th Street, New Albany), with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
