Glen William Oney

Glen William Oney, 83, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12 after a short battle with cancer. He was residing at the Village of Avon in Avon.

Glen was born in Hazard, Ky., on June 16, 1941. He was a 1959 graduate of Greencastle High School.

As a teenager he worked at RR Donnelly’s in Crawfordsville and Warsaw. He then worked on the family farm before starting a job at the Xerox Corp. as a service technician. He later retired from Xerox in 1994.

He was married to Ina Alice Alspaugh in 1962 in Warsaw. They were happily married for 59 years until Ina’s death in February 2022.

Glen was a member of the Greencastle Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Anyone who knew Glen knew how passionate he was about his faith and Christian beliefs. Sharing those beliefs in the ministry was the primary focus of his life.

Glen loved sports. He was an avid golfer but loved fishing and tennis as well. When he wasn’t physically able to play anymore he still enjoyed watching all sports on TV.

He is survived by his three children, Teresa Venable (Avon), Todd Oney (Greencastle) and Ty Oney (Greencastle), and his siblings, Keira Smith and Kevin Oney. He had two grandchildren, Austin and Alec Venable. He also was survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and of course many in his spiritual family in the congregation.

He was preceded in death by his father (Emerson Oney), his mother (Grace Combs Oney), his stepmother (Marjorie Morrison Oney) and his loving wife (Ina Oney).

There will be a memorial service held at the Greencastle Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 104 10th St., Greencastle, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2.
