Community Connect returns this weekend at new location

Are you struggling and looking for ways to make things better for your family?

The fourth-annual Putnam County Community Connect is set for Saturday, Oct 26, in a new location at Greencastle Christian Church from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

This is a one-stop shop where people in our county can receive services or sign-up for services in one place on one day. Families can sign up for free Christmas gifts with Giving Tree, talk to Medicaid and Medicare navigators, get help with gas utilities, meet with mental health and addiction services, find services for those with a disability or the aging, check out new job opportunities, food pantry locations, library services and other agencies that help with children’s needs.

Then there are all the free options: Coats for Kids, clothes for adults, health screenings, vaccinations by the Putnam County Health Department, underwear, one bag of groceries per family (for the first 175 families) and haircuts (for the first 50 people). Top it off with a free boxed lunch from Myer’s Market (for the first 300 people).

Just like the Tools for School event in August, families will enter Door 4 at Greencastle Christian Church for Community Connect.

Centerpoint Energy will be able that day to help anyone whose gas has been turned off, while WICAA will be able to accept applications for energy assistance with proof of income and a copy of energy bills.

For free vaccinations, patients need to bring photo ID/driver’s license and insurance card.

Sponsors for this event include Centerpoint Energy, the City of Greencastle and the Jack and Shirley Dalton Trust Fund. The event is coordinated by Ruth Myers of Phil the Need and Lori Miller of Getting Ahead in Putnam County from Gobin Church.
