With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Greencastle Fire Department joined in to support the cause and raise money for the Putnam County Hospital and patients currently battling breast cancer. Last Friday representatives from the PCH were at the fire station to receive a $3,000 check from GFD.

“This has been something that we’ve wanted to do for the last several years,” GFD Fire Chief Rob Frank said. “We’ve wanted to wear pink to support breast cancer and we finally made the decision to do that this year. However it wasn’t just about getting to wear a pink shirt. In order to wear the shirt during their shift, they had to donate at least $25 toward breast cancer. Through that and selling shirts, that’s a way we were able to raise some money.”

“We also had support from three amazing contributors. Heather Taylor with State Farm, Tyler Cox with Re/MAX and North Salem State Bank were all great partners that we worked with here in the community and with everything that’s how we were able to raise $3,000 for this great cause.”

Frank also did make note that he saw this was a common thing that fire departments do this time of year and that this will also become a yearly tradition.

“Some of the guys had the idea and we wanted to run with it,” Frank added. “We wanted to do something a little more than just wear pink and do something so we could help the local patients here at Putnam County Hospital. This is something that we plan on doing every year now and are looking forward to it.”
