County Jail

Six people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 11:35 a.m. Elizabeth Wheeler, 46, Rockville, was housed at the jail for possession of cocaine, obstruction of justice, public nudity and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 8:42 a.m. Tonya Lowry, 50, Rockville, was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 8:35 a.m. Bryson Kohler, 25, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated endangering a person.

• At 4:51 a.m. Mark Henderson, 33, Bainbridge, was taken into custody for domestic battery.

Friday

• At 11:29 a.m. Carla Maga, 63, Cloverdale, was taken into custody on a local warrant.

Thursday

• At 4:02 p.m. Andrew Birt, 33, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

City Police

Four recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police, including a third child solicitation case in two weeks involving the Indianapolis Predator Catchers group:

• At 9:09 p.m. Friday, Michael A. Anderson, 30, Paragon, was arrested for child solicitation by Officer Justin Herd.

Taken into custody on South Indiana Street, Anderson was apprehended after allegedly making contact with a 14-year-old decoy through the Predator Catchers organization. He was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

• At 8:48 p.m. Saturday, Douglas Smith, 66, Greencastle, was arrested by Det. Darrel Bunten at Illinois and Ohio streets.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Smith is facing charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing injury and leaving the scene of an accident. Under blood-alcohol testing he registered .369 percent blood-alcohol concentration, more than four times the legal limit in Indiana.

The vehicle Smith was driving reportedly struck a home at 501 Ohio St., owned by Jason and Lee Ann Hoover, causing an estimated $5,000-$7,000 damage.

Damaged in the accident was a structural support wall of the home that was pushed inward, along with a chainlink fence, porch post, railing, shrubbery and other landscaping.

• At 2:03 a.m. Saturday, Alexandra Vittetow, 28, Zionsville, was arrested by Officer Herd.

Taken into custody at Franklin and Arlington streets and lodged in the county jail, Vittetow was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after registering .124 percent blood-alcohol concentration on portable breathalyzer testing.

• At 7:51 a.m. Thursday, William Davis, 43, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Alec Pettit.

Taken into custody at a Shadowlawn Avenue residence, Davis was lodged in the local jail on a Putnam County warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of criminal mischief.

One recent summons was issued by city officers:

• At 11:08 p.m. Sunday, Daniel Bruce, 40, Greencastle, was issued a summons into court by Officer Herd.

Stopped at State Road 240 and Bloomington Street, Bruce was cited for possession of a controlled substance.

Four recent citations were also issued by city officers:

• At 3:26 p.m. Sunday, James Komendo, 51, Russellville, was cited for speeding by Officer Jared McDaniel.

Stopped at North Jackson and Frazier streets, Komendo was ticketed for 54 mph in a 40-mph zone.

• At 8:12 p.m. Oct. 15, semi driver Joseph Williams, 44, Portland, Tenn., was stopped by Officer Hurd at Washington and Durham streets.

Williams was ticketed for failure to obey signs and markings.

• At 3:58 p.m. Oct. 15, Jared Robbins, 36, Cloverdale, was cited by Officer Bunten.

Stopped at Veterans Memorial Highway and Warren Drive, Robbins was ticketed for having no valid driver’s license.

• At 7:16 p.m. Oct. 14, Cole Peyton, 27, Fillmore, was ticketed by Officer Herd.

Stopped on South Jackson Street, Peyton was cited for an expired license plate (Sept. 7, 2023).

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to several calls from Thursday, Oct. 17 through Monday, Oct. 21. 

• At 7:30 a.m. Thursday, crews received a call regarding a fire alarm at 225 S. Bloomington St. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was activated due to cooking. Crews reset the alarm and returned to service at 7:43 p.m. 

• At 3:25 p.m. Thursday, GFD was dispatched to 1107 Indianapolis Rd regarding a smoke investigation. Crews were called to the location for a vehicle fire. When crews arrived, they found no fire however, the vehicle had an electrical issue instead. The owner had the vehicle towed and crews returned to service at 3:39 p.m. 

• At 9:02 p.m. Friday, crews responded to a fire alarm at 24 S. Indiana St. The alarm had been reset before GFD's arrival and no action was taken. 

• At 5:30 p.m. Friday, GFD received notice of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Illinois and Ohio St. Crews arrived to a single-vehicle accident. The vehicle was in power pole. Crews assisted with patient care and cleaned fluid and debris from the roadway. Once the vehicle was removed from the scene, crews returned to service at 6:21 p.m. 

• At 8:12 p.m. Friday, crews were dispatched to a carbon monoxide investigation at 1006 Lincoln Ave. Once crews arrived, they monitored the home for carbon monoxide. There were no readings found of carbon monoxide and crews returned to service at 8:25 p.m. 

• At 8:33 p.m. Friday, GFD responded to a controlled burn at 3144 S. CR 200 West. Crews were called to the location for a field fire. When they arrived on scene they determined the homeowner was having a controlled burn and returned to service at 8:54 p.m. 

• At 8:28 p.m. Saturday, crews responded to an animal rescue call at 2221 S. CR 250 East. Crews were called to remove a cat from a tree. Once the cat was removed, crews returned to service at 10:08 p.m.
