Robert L. Gray

Robert L. Gray, 89, of Sebring, Fla., passed away peacefully on Sept. 8, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on Dec. 16, 1934, in Brown County, Ind., Robert was the son of the late Louis Garfield Gray and Mabel Maude Hines Gray.

On July 26, 1972, Robert married Carol Ann Early, his beloved wife of nearly 45 years until her passing on June 9, 2017.

Robert enjoyed a successful 34-year career with IBM. Alongside his career, Robert also took pride in farming and enjoyed spending time outdoors.

He valued his friendships and was an active member of his community, participating in organizations like the Masonic Lodge and Sons of the American Legion. Whether at work, with his family, or contributing to his community, Robert lived life to its fullest, embracing every moment with integrity, warmth, and purpose.

He is survived by his loving children, Jennifer Jones of Cloverdale, Mark Gray of Florida and Rusty Hitch (Shelly) of Zionsville.

Robert is also survived by his sister, Nelly Fox of Terre Haute, and his eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sisters Sylvia Gray and Delpha Oliver, and brothers Carl Nathan “Jack” Gray, Samuel Gray, Richard “Bud” Gray and Alfred Gray.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held on Nov. 17 from 2-5 p.m. at the American Legion Post 281, 501 S. Main St., Cloverdale. Friends and family are invited to gather, share stories, and honor the remarkable life he lived.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (donate.cancer.org) or the Compassus Living Foundation (compassuslivingfoundation.org), honoring Robert’s commitment to family, community and the values he cherished.
