Passenger killed in crash in southern Montgomery County

NEW MARKET — A crash in Montgomery County Sunday evening left one person dead.

Just before 6 p.m., the Indiana State Police and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal crash on U.S. 231 near State Road 234.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Freightliner was traveling northbound on U.S. 231 when a a 2016 Honda CRV traveling eastbound on State Road 234 pulled out into its path, resulting in a collision.

Both vehicles came to rest on the west side of US 231, north of State Road 234.

The passenger of the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Montgomery County Coroner. The victim’s name is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Honda was transported by medical helicopter to an Indianapolis-area hospital, condition unknown. The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured.

Trooper Walsh was assisted at the scene by the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, New Market Fire Department, Crawfordsville Fire Department and Crawfordsville EMS.

The investigation into this crash remains active and ongoing.
